DELICIOUS LIBRARY-3 APP HAS FROZEN

Please can you help me with a significant problem with my Delicious Library - 3 app on my MacBook Pro?

I have over 1300 books stored on the DL app and it has very recently stopped responding when I attempt to open the app; the message is “Application Not Responding” with the “BeachBall” rotating and I have to perform a “Force Quit”. I attach a copy of the screen save showing the app at the point it does not respond. The app always stops at this point and displays a slightly out of focus image of my Library which is also slightly dark.

My system is:

  • A MacBook Pro 16 inch, 2019
  • The operating system is MacOS Ventura 13.0.1
  • The Processor is 2.3GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9.
  • The Graphics are AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 4GB. Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB.
  • My Delicious Library 3 app is version 3.9.3 and it was originally purchased from the Apple Store on 14 July 2014.

To attempt to overcome this problem I have:

  • Undertaken a SMC reset and a PRAM reset with no improvement.
  • I hold a file copy of my library in Delicious Library 3 Medium but not a very recent CSV file, I'm the idiot.

Clearly with over 1300 books in my library I welcome your assistance in overcoming the problem.

I have the same issue (app opens, spinning ball cursor, app not responding). I stumbled on a partial* workaround when I used "CleanMyMacX" to 'reset' the Delicious Library 3 app. This returns Delicious Library 3 to its 'initial' installed state by removing any working files created by the app. When you open it, it asks you if you want to create a simple library using the included example. You can then import the library3 file from the backup or the existing library3 file.

Steps

  1. Locate a Delicious Library3 file that is unmodified from *before* you opened the app in Ventura. I used Time Machine to locate an older version, located in "Library/Containers/Delicious Library/Data/Library/Application Support/Delicious Library 3/Delicious Library Items.deliciouslibrary3". Save the restored file in your Documents folder or somewhere you can access it easily.
  2. It appears opening the app under Ventura damages the main application database, so we will need to delete it. Delete the support folder 'Delicious Library' in the Library/Containers folder in your user folder. Suggest saving this folder elsewhere before deleting it from the Library folder. (This is the same as the CleanMyMacX app 'reset').
  3. Start Delicious Library 3. It should ask you what kind of library you want to create. I just went with the simple demo library that is provided.
  4. The app should create a small library and function normally.
  5. Use the "Import" function under "File" to import your older Delicious Library3 file . A pop-up progress bar should appear to indicate how things are going. When done, your library should be restored to the state last saved under Time Machine.

*This seems to work for a while at least (the spinning ball issue eventually came back), and you can take the opportunity to export the data to some other application format.

With the continued freezing of this application under Ventura, I decided to try something a little different. When opening the application, I went immediately to the menu bar and changed the view of my library from "View as Bookshelf" to "View as List". So far the application remains stable; however, if I change it back to "View as Bookshelf", the application freezes. Once I reopen the application and change to list, the app remains stable and continues to reopen in list view with no problems.

The second thing I was successful with is exporting the database into a CSV format and open in Numbers. This was completed by going to the menu bar and choosing: 1) Export To 2) Another Application. Within the Export window I selected: 1) for Export, "Entire Library" 2) for Separate multiple values with, "Comma" 3) for Export Fields, select the categories important to you 4) Numbers as the application to open in.

I hope this may help a bit.
