Encryption credentials expired

I’ve got an iMac running Ventura. I also have an Epson 4630 printer which I’ve been using for many years. Today I can no longer print. Printer states Encryption Credentials Expired. I’ve removed the printer and re added it as an AirPrint but it hasn’t fixed it. Any ideas how to fix this?

iMac 24″, macOS 13.0

Hopefully this works for you, it worked for me. Go to Apple: "system preferences" go to "printer and Scanners" Then left click on your printer and "reset printing system". Then click the + a the bottom to add your printer again. Add the printer by right clicking on the top one "Epson WF-4630 Series Bonjour Multifunction" on the bottom for Use: select "AirPrint" then to the bottom select "Add". Then it should work.

I do see " Epson 4630" < Epson WF-4630 > (?) listed as an AirPrint...

Good morning,


I would check out EpsonNet Config Utility. The printer needs to generate a new certificate. HP and Canon use a web interface to go through the steps. I just finished doing this with my Canon photo printer. I don't have an Epson so I can't be more specific.

This error occurs when the Printer's web certificate has expired.


For me, to resolve this problem, I had to go to the printer's web interface, typically using https://<your_printer_name>.local/ and from there, you go to the following menu option:


Network Security Settings -> SSL/TLS -> Certificate.


From there, you choose the "Update" button form the "Self-signed Certificate" section.


This will have you go through the generation of a new self-signed certificate for your printer's web GUI which is also what Apple uses as it goes over HTTPS when communicating with your printer. I left the "10 year" suggested value for the "Certificate Validity (year)" field, this way I don't run into this problem for quite a long time.


Following that certificate update, I removed and re-added the printer from the Apple settings, didn't need to go through any of the Epson utilities.

If the printer queue with an expired certificate is still listed in Printers & Scanners— remove it and re-add the printer.

The new certificate should be renewed.



I do this from CUPS management   through the browser:   http://localhost:631/admin/


if no interface, then  from Terminal.app  copy & paste:

cupsctl WebInterface=yes

Enter your IP address in a new browser; and login. Navigate to Network and advanced settings, network security settings to get to certificates. Choose "create a new self-signed certificate" and follow the prompts. It worked great for me after trying eight hours of things that didn't. I have Monterey 12.6.2 on a mid-2015 mac. Good Luck.

I recently upgraded to MacOS Monterey 12.6.2 and my EPSON WF-5620 printer stopped printing documents.


All prints ended up in the queue which was permanently paused.


I did try deleting and re-adding the printer back, as well as the resetting the printer system, neither of these two options worked for me.


Somewhere I came across the error message that the Encryption credentials has expired.


Updating the certificate certainly worked for me too.
