Expired encryption certificate on epson printer
How do I fix an expired encryption certificate on my printer
How do I fix an expired encryption certificate on my printer
After spending a couple of hours on this issue (on an Epson WF7620/MacOS 12.6.2 configuration), your recommendation below fixed the issue. Thanks very much!!
"Update or generate or re-generate the SSL/TLS self-signed digital certificate (or acquire and load a new commercial digital cert, if one of those was used here) as described starting on page 14 here:

The problem, in my case (Epson WF 7610) lies entirely with the printer, in the printer. It has nothing to do with computer based OS's or software. Leave your Mac, go to the printer, get into the wifi settings and write down the IP. Return to your Mac, put the IP into your web browser and move past all the warnings telling you it's insecure until you reach the Epson set up page. Then go NetworkSecurity Settings/SSL-TLS/Certificate. If you have the same problem as me then you will find your printer decided to let its Security Self-certification expire on 30Dec2022. Click "update" add another ten years, wait a few minutes, try your printer again.
I had an expired encryption certificate problem on my epson printer. I found the solution to my problem.
I tried all the recommendations on the Apple support site and elsewhere on the internet without fixing the problem. I also spent a hour on the phone with Apple tech support but the problem was not fixed.
Here is the solution to the problem. On my computer, I went to the system settings - Printers and scanners. I found my epson printer and deleted the printer. I then went to the add printer option. On this screen I chose the middle icon "IP". Rather than adding the printer name I added the IP address from the Epson printer. I found the printer IP address from the Epson printer screen under "Settings" and "Network Status".
Adding the Epson printer IP address rather than adding the printer name solved them problem. I can now print once again.
This can happen for various reasons, including macOS updates or upgrades.
The standard fix to get your printer going again, is to reset the Mac's Printing System.

Check your printer firmware, and update as necessary:
Update or generate or re-generate the SSL/TLS self-signed digital certificate (or acquire and load a new commercial digital cert, if one of those was used here) as described starting on page 14 here:

I’d restart the printer.
You may then need to remove and re-add the printer on macOS, iPhone, or iPad.
01/26/2023 - To fix the issue, I had to delete my Epson printer from the printers option on my Apple computer's settings menu. Then, I had to re-add my printer using the IP address option. (There was still a pop-up that said it had failed, but as usual technology doesn't know what it's talking about). It works fine. You can obtain your Epson IP address by using the touch screen and going to the wifi/network settings options menu. What I would like to know is why this happened in the first place? Neither my printer nor my computer have been updated recently and this issue just happened randomly. Thanks
Try updating your Epson Printers Firmware using it's on-board Control Panel.
Think I have got it sorted !! I did update the firmware on the printer. I can also see that if you put your printer IP address in your web browser it will give you much more options to look further into your printer and there is a section on certificates which you can update and confirm. I have to say I didn't need to do this - I am assuming after the firmware update, re-boot on wifi and then restart on laptop it does seem to be working now - so I keep my fingers crossed that's it all sorted.
Good luck getting yours sorted too.... Saved me giving my printer an actual boot across the floor !!!
Hi denise191,
It is always better if you mention the printer model. However, a search (Filter -> Time -> Last day) via Search - Apple Community for something like encryption credentials should show some suggested solutions involving, for example, updated certificates.
Thank you for the information.
There have recently been several reports about this kind of error message, not only for Epson printers. It could possibly be related to AirPrint and certificates.
For example:

I had tried all of the things you had mentioned but was not successful at that point. In the end I believe what got my printer going again was that I had deleted all the Epson software and must have just used the software that would have come with the computer and it worked. Does that sound plausible? Anyway, it's working again. Thanks to all who had posted in this discussion.
Hi ….. join the club ….this happened to us yesterday as well. Both laptops now have this message about encryption certificates expired and will not print. I have tried other options such as re boot Wi-Fi, reset printer to factory settings, deleating printer and re-adding it as a new printer but nothing has worked. It will AirPrint from phones and iPads. It’s literally so annoying as I cannot find a solution ….
Hi. It is a continuing saga for me. Like you I can print from my phone to air print. I've spoke to Apple Support and I have ben told that I really need to talk to Epson to get updates from them. The last Apple operator gave me a procedure to try to update but it appeared to be the blind leading the blind as we were unsure of the correct entires to put into a field in the form it brought up. Will have to wait till morning to see if Epson support will be open on a public holiday tomorrow otherwise it will be at least Tuesday. Verrrry frustrating.
What is happening????? Seems like a lot of us are coming up with the same problem. I have an Epson printer and 2 days ago I got the encryption certificate expiration message on my printer. Not an old printer. Only had it 4 years. I can't print anything. I tried Epson via email (no response) and I tried calling them but was on hold for 20 minutes. Today, I did Apple chat support and was on line for 2 1/2 hours with them. The person tried everything with me to no avail. I don't know where to turn now.
This worked like a charm! Thank you very much. Just as importantly, it eliminated my "Paused Printer" classification that seemed like an insurmountable issue to overcome. Very happy! Thanks again!
