Add cell phone line to iPad, but don’t have cell phone to confirm code.

I lost my cell phone on vacation. Trying to activate text messages on my iPad. When I try to add the number it asks me to confirm a number via the cell phone. Is there another way to authorize the activation?

I'm not sure what you are trying to do. An iPad (even one with cellular data hardware) doesn't have the cellular voice hardware to transmit or receive SMS/MMS text messages at all unless you have an active iPhone on the same Apple ID.

You can use the iMessage system on your iPad to send and receive iMessage messages using your Apple ID as the address, but not using the billing number that may be associated with your iPad if it has a cellular data-only account.
