M1 - 7 or 8 Core GPU

Gonna get an M1 MBA, and taking into account i;'m also trading my intel Mac in as well.

If i trade in separately, (since trade-ins do not apply to Refurbished Mac's) it will only be Gift card only, vs trade in at purchase and get "money back in my account to use as i please"

Now, the refurbished has 8 core CPU and GPU while the one on Apple store has 7 core GPU.

My user case will be:

  • encoding:- (...really not on on Mac but on VM (Windows 11 insider) but its still matters even under virtualization. GPU I figure

  • general mac web browsing/email, so 512 Gig ssd would be sufficient as my current Intel has has this capacity too

while the refurbished as 1TB SSD, (...never gonna fill that up ), but on the plus side it does have 8 core GPU.

occasional Gaming under WINE/porting Kit i guess is the main reason for going 8 core GPU. but need more insight...

I've seen, its "negotiable" in performance. but going under a M1 anyway its gonna be fast regardless.

More important than CPU/GPU, since you are planning to use virtualization, it would be more important to get a MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM. while you may be able to get away with 8GB, performance of the VM will suffer and cause excessive wear and tear on the SSD because of the amount of memory swapping that will take place.
