AirPods notification volume too loud

Have to adjust notification volume every time I use AirPods. Why can't iPhone remember the setting. It remembers the music volume. Is there a way to change this behavior ? Maybe the shortcuts app?

Hello DPAR15,

You could try changing the tone volume with the following related steps: Adjust headphone audio settings on iPhone

Adjust headphone audio settings on iPhone

With supported Apple and Beats headphones, you can amplify soft sounds and adjust certain frequencies to suit your hearing. These adjustments help music, movies, phone calls, and podcasts sound more crisp and clear.

Set headphone accommodations

1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations, then turn on Headphone Accommodations.

2. Tap Custom Audio Setup, then follow the onscreen instructions. Or manually set any of the following:

- Tune Audio For: Choose Balanced Tone, Vocal Range, Brightness, or Audiogram (if available).

- Level: Choose Slight, Moderate, or Strong amplification of soft sounds.

- Phone: Apply these audio settings to phone calls.

- Media: Apply these audio settings to media playback.

- Transparency Mode: (available when you have AirPods Pro connected to iPhone) Turn on Custom Transparency Mode, then adjust the amplification, balance, tone, and ambient noise reduction to help you hear what’s happening around you. You can also turn on Conversation Boost to focus on a person talking in front of you. See Customize Transparency mode for AirPods Pro in the AirPods User Guide.

3. To preview your audio settings, tap Play Sample.

Add an audiogram

You can use an audiogram to customize your audio settings on supported Apple and Beats headphones. You can import an audiogram by taking a photo or importing a saved file.

1. Go to Settings  > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Headphone Accommodations, turn on Headphone Accommodations, then tap Custom Audio Setup.

2. Select an audiogram from the list or tap Add Audiogram.

In Accessibility, you can adjust the volume for music, phone, media, etc.

Let us know if this helps out or not, take care.

About firmware updates for AirPods - Apple Support -- Let’s make sure your AirPods firmware is up to date. You’ll want to be sure the device you use your AirPods with most frequently is also up to date. Since we haven’t asked for the specific model of AirPods you have, to see which firmware your AirPods are on, on your iPhone or iPad go to Settings > Bluetooth > Info Button beside the name of your AirPods. Scroll and down to “About”. Then compare it with the chart in the article that lists the latest firmware. There’s also steps to locate the firmware version on a Mac in this article as well if needed. If they need updating, connect your AirPods to charge and keep them within Bluetooth range of the device for a bit. Once the firmware is updated, please test the issue.

How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support -- If Notification sounds are still too loud, reset your AirPods:

1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
2. Wait 30 seconds.
3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
• If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
• If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.
5. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.
6. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

Hello DPAR15,

We see that you have a question about the volume of notifications for apps. We'd like to provide you with some information that can help with the question that you have.

Take a look at the following page on Notifications where you can adjust the type of notification that you get for each app.

Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad

You also might want to check to see if you have your settings set to be able to adjust the volume with the buttons on your iPhone. You can check those settings with these steps:

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics (on supported models) or Sounds (on other iPhone models).
  3. Turn off Change with Buttons.

I think you have miss understood the problem. I am talking about volume for notifications. I have where you can adjust the volume of notifications(ringer) with the side buttons. I like having it set at max because I work in a noisy environment. So when I use AirPods the volume of notifications is at max. Of course I forget to turn it down. Get a painfully loud notification and turn down the volume of the notifications. Now when I stop using AirPods the volume for notifications are too low. Because I did not remember to turn it up. This has nothing to do with the volume of what I'm listing to or transparency mode. The iPhone should remember the setting. When using wired EarPods, it does remember the volume setting. (it did 2 year ago when I still used wired EarPods.)
