using MacBook Air keyboard to switch display

My MacBook Air screen just died and I have connected it to an external monitor using a USB-C port. The iMac automatically set up the external keyboard as an extended monitor (I think). Is there a way to tell the iMac to use the external monitor as the primary or mirrored display using the keyboard since I am unable to use menus?

Target Display Mode isn't working. Hello, I have an issue to do with my mid 2011 iMac and Target Display Mode. I was given a 27-inch, mid 2011 iMac with macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 by my college. My plan was to use it as an extended monitor for my 13-inch, Early 2015 MacBook Pro with macOS Monterey Version 12.7.6. I did some research and found out what Target Display Mode is. When I was given the iMac the apple keyboard and mouse was not included and I do not own any. I purchased a THUNDERBOLT Video Cable and plugged it into both the iMac and the MacBook. I was told that the windows key translates to the Command key on my keyboard however upon pressing Windows-F2 (cmd-F2) an alert beep sounded. I was then told to go to System Preferences>Keyboard and check "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" but the iMac doesn't have that option. I would be extremely thankful if someone gave me some advice or solutions to my problem. Thank You

Mac Studio connecting to HDMI monitor disables the Thunderbolt monitor's Display For some reason when I connect a 2nd external monitor on my Mac Studio (max) via HDMI, my main monitor (using the Thunderbolt port) becomes disabled. It shows the screen wallpaper but doesn't allow me to interact with anything. It's just the start up screen and nothing more. I can't use a Thunderbolt port for the second monitor, because that monitor only has HDMI and the larger display port outputs. I need the second monitor to sit above my synth keyboard, a few feet away from my actual desktop. This setup worked great for me withy iMac. Thanks for reading this, guys, Tom D

Cannot connect Imac as external display dear Community, I'm trying to use my old Imac as an external monitor for my new mac book pro. It actually worked around two years ago so I suspect it must be relating to ios change but I need your expertise to check if I let it go or get the change to recover it. My Mac book pro : 14i, 2021, M1 with last version of Monterey is connected with a USBC adapter to thunderbolt plugged in the Imac (I assume the cable is right cause it used to work in the past) IMac : 27i,mid 2011 with the last version of High Sierra The Imac is not detected in the monitor preferences of Monterey When I use the previous working sequence on the Imac keyboard cmd+F2, I get nothing on the imac screen. Any insight please? Thanks Christophe / France

Thank you for posting to the Apple Support Communities.

You may be able to use the Spotlight search feature to locate open System Preferences or System Settings and modify your display arrangement. “Command–Space bar” should open Spotlight search. You can also find a list of macOS keyboard shortcuts in the Apple Support article below.

Please contact Apple Support for more help or to find out about any repair options for the built-in display.
