The concept of “a previous channel” doesn’t apply when multiple apps are involved for VOD content. But it can apply to certain TV provider apps that have (numbered) in-app channels for linear (‘live’) TV. Which app and TV provider is this about?

The bundled physical remote for the Apple TV box doesn’t have a button for previous channel. But the software remote on iPhone or iPad does have Channel Up and Channel Down touch screen buttons. See image.

Some TV providers (Spectrum, Salt, maybe others) have made available a special compatible hardware remote for Apple TV with their own button design. You could buy that, if you have a plan with one of them.
