Single (Right) AirPod 2nd Gen not working

Hi, issue:

Right AirPod 2nd gen stopped working and dropped off Bluetooth to my phone; but Left AirPod and case was still visible on iPhone Bluetooth and worked.

Followed Apple online advice and tried a reset. Didn't work. Reset included "forget device" on Bluetooth.

Now neither airpods or the case will go into pairing mode (ie "flashing white light") and can't be detected on any device.

I note that the right AirPod flashes amber when placed in the case for charging.

I assume I need to replace the battery or whole right AirPod, but I'm worried the case and left air pod will NOW not connect.

Question: will the case and left AirPod normally enter pairing mode without the presence of the right air pod or will it ONLY enter pairing mode with both AirPods on the case and working?

You will need both AirPods in the case in order to pair a new device.
