Media files not playing

I upgraded my hard drive and when I try to play a media file I get the following unknown error (-101). Files I record on my iPhone won't play either. I'm running macOS Ventura 13.1

MacBook Pro

Hi Shawng32,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your Mac is giving an error and your iPhone files aren't playing. Are you using QuickTime when this error appears? Move the files into the music app and try to play them there.

Disable any security software you have enabled. If you have multiple music apps open, close all but Music or QuickTime and try to play from one or the other.

Try to access the files while in safe mode. Safe mode will run a health check on the disk while allowing limited startup programs and extensions.

"Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."
