Notifications not working

Hello,

I am facing a strange problem with my iPhone 11 running on latest iOS 16.1.2. Recently, I have travelled internationally for more than a month. After coming back, I noticed that notifications for all installed apps like WhatsApp, Gmail, Messenger, Outlook etc. are not working. I do not get any updates until I open an app. When I open app, then only app gets new messages/email/missed call info.

I have checked iPhone "Notifications" settings, app's settings for notification, background app refresh and cellular data. All settings are correctly turned on. I reset notification setting for WhatsApp but that did not resolve this problem.

Please help!

Hello sr-2022,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We can see how not getting these notifications is a concern, and we'd like to help.To get started, please back up your iPhone and update to the latest version iOS 16.2. as every update has both improvements, and issue fixes. Here's how:

Update your iPhone or iPad

If that didn't help, let's try the following steps:

  1. Go to: Settings > Notifications, select the app, and make sure that Allow Notifications is on.
  2. If notifications are turned on for an app but alerts aren’t received, Banners might not be selected. Go to: Settings > Notifications, select the app, then select Banners.

Make sure the affected notifications are not set to “Deliver Quietly”: Use notifications on your iPhone or iPad

3.Make sure the device is not muted.

4.Make sure you are signed into with your Apple ID.

5.Verify the device is reporting correct date and time: Change the date and time on iPhone

We hope this information is useful. Kind regards.

I re-check all the suggested steps but it did not help.

I had updated iOS already with the hope to resolve this issue.

  1. For all the required apps, I have checked Allow Notifications is on in iPhone Notification and App settings.
  2. Banners are selected for notifications and also Banner Style is set to persistent too.
  3. "Deliver Quietly" is the feature for older os less than 15 or so. For iOS 16, that option is not available. It can be only achieved through Notifications from settings menu.
  4. My device is not muted - I receive notification for iMessages, and FaceTime.
  5. I am signed into my Apple ID - I am able to FaceTime.
  6. My device is set to synchronize date and time automatically. And it is showing it correctly.

Also, background app refresh is also on. I reset notification settings for WhatsApp. Change the date and time - make it a day older, restart phone, change date and time to sync automatically, restart the phone again. No luck.

I am unable to get what is preventing the notifications. Can you help!
