Sometimes when I add music to my iMovie project the entire background changes to blue. Other times it doesn't and the only visible change is the ribbon which displays the song.
What is the difference?
iMac, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo,
Mac OS X (10.6.4),
4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Both ways are valid. When you drag the music to the background, the background turns green. You can add clips to the project and the music is not affected.
If you drag the music and drop it on a particular frame of a clip, the music is displayed in a ribbon, and the start of the music is tied to that frame. This method gives you more control of the music track, for example, by letting you trim the beginning or end by dragging, or by letting you layer multiple tracks.
