iPhone video doesn’t work with external mic

I have a iPhone 13 with lightning port. I have an external mic with a lightning plug. When I do a camera video, the mic doesn’t work.

I've noticed that the phone will record audio with the built-in microphone regardless of what is plugged into the port. Is there a setting somewhere to select the input source for video audio?

External microphone no longer connecting after iOS 17.1.1 update My iPhone XS Max updated to iOS 17.1.1 today and now when I plug in my microphone my Camera App behaves as though nothing were plugged in and uses the phone microphone, and I don't know how to access the Camera's sound settings to connect it, as it was simply plug and play before the update.
