how to upate software on older MacBook Pro

Happy New Year!

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro, that still runs great, and I'm currently on macOS Big Sur 11.72.

I'm getting notifications to update software like Keynote, Pages, and Numbers. When I try to update I get the message that the updates require OS ver 12 or later and I'm prompted to download the latest compatible version.

When I click the Download button, nothing happens. Any suggestions or ideas on how to get the latest versions compatible with OS 11.72?

I'm also getting notifications to upgrade OS Monterey, which I don't think I can do, any suggestions or ideas on how to turn off these notifications?

It sounds like you are trying to update some apps on your MacBook Pro, but you are running into issues because your version of macOS (Big Sur 11.72) is not compatible with the latest versions of the apps.

To update your apps to the latest compatible versions, you will need to do the following:

  1. Open the App Store on your MacBook Pro.
  2. Click on the "Updates" tab.
  3. Find the apps that you want to update and click the "Update" button next to them.

If the "Update" button is not available, it is possible that the apps are no longer supported on your version of macOS. In this case, you will need to find older versions of the apps that are compatible with your system.

As for the notifications to upgrade to macOS Monterey, you can turn these off by going to the "System Preferences" app, clicking on the "Software Update" preference, and then unchecking the "Automatically keep my Mac up to date" option. This will prevent your Mac from checking for and installing new updates automatically.

Keep in mind that running an older version of macOS may leave your Mac vulnerable to security risks, as newer versions often include important security updates and patches. If you are able to upgrade to a newer version of macOS, it is generally recommended to do so in order to keep your system secure.
