When I text certain folks while not on my Wi-Fi, the location indicator spins and I have to log off to stop it. Why does it do that

79% is not healthy and is to be expected after years of use and charging cycles. So have the weak, aging battery replaced and all will (probably) be well:

Are you connected to a cellular network and do you have cellular data turned on and enabled for messaging?
Yes and cellular data is on. Do not see where you have to enable messaging
If cellular data is on it should work.
Texting works. The problem is the loading indicator spins and I have to reboot to stop it
