Turning off FaceTime special effects

Is there a way to turn off special effects in FaceTime? My son has court ordered phone calls with his abusive father and because he recorded dad has decided to sit in silence and use the text feature. I really need a solution to shutting this off if there is one. Thanks in advance for the help!
