Activation lock and returns

I recently bought a new iPad 10th generation but have decided to return it. I have erased all content and also removed device from iCloud but the activation lock is still coming up on the iPad… does it take time for this to disappear? I also have tried restarting the iPad and also setting it up again and removing it again. I’m not sure what to try next as I need to return it soon to get a refund

You've locked this device. So, you might need to get this unlocked, before returning it.

Troubleshooting a Locked iPad:

Being Locked Out...

Hold it Right There!

Enter the passcode incorrectly too many times, and you'd likely be locked out for good. So, hold it right there, and refer to this link: If you Forgot your iPad Passcode - Apple Support. It would be the one you've always entered. If you do not know it, then look for it in a location you may have stored it in.

No Success?

Contact Apple support:

If you cannot get the above link to work, then contact Apple Support.

Apple Contact Info:

  • Contact Us - Choose Locations
  • Proceed from there, as necessary
  • Why the Wait: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due to lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

"Activation lock and returns: TheLittles I think you’ve misunderstood my question… the passcode is not an issue. The device does not come up on FindMy as I removed it, however the iPad still says 'iPad locked to owner'"

Returning a Locked Device:

Thank you for your clarification. It seems you've purchased a device that was never disassociated from the previous owner. So, return it, informing the cashier of this.
