I can't activate lost mode for AirPods pro

I have AirPods pro not 1st or 2nd generation. I have lost them. I have followed the steps. I went to Find My app, I scrolled to my AirPods Pro and the option to activate lost mode was not there. I have iOS 16 on my phone. I tried using iCloud from my MacBook as well. The lost mode is not an option. I have read that several people had the same problem and the responses have always been the same, offering instructions that have already been followed and stating that the option is not available for earlier model even though they stated they had AirPods Pro. We need a real solution.
