Ventura upgrade hangs for hours, not complete

Trying to 'upgrade' my MacBook Pro 16″ (2019) running Monterey 12.6.1 to macOS Ventura 13.1, but hangs at 5 minutes left somehow for hours, and won't finish.

I have also tried to 'update' my current Monterey 12.6.1 to macOS Monterey 12.6.2, but similarly hangs at 5 minutes left somehow for hours, and won't finish as well.

At a loss of what to do here to update/upgrade my macOS.

Anyone have any idea how to remedy this, so I can move forward?

Thanks in advance!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.6

Days after report:

In short, I was able to 'upgrade' to macOS Ventura 13.1 successfully, and am using it now.

Long version, I first tried 'Safe Boot' mode, but it also was stuck for hours, and was unsuccessful.

Few days later, I received a notification that my system is ready to update in the Notification Center with a restart, interestingly.

Today, while booted normally, I started the 'update' of my current Monterey 12.6.1 to macOS Monterey 12.6.2, and this time it was successful without any extra wait time like before. Then, from newly updated macOS Monterey 12.6.2, I continued on to 'upgrade' to macOS Ventura 13.1, and after some restarts, my system was successfully 'updated' to Monterey, and is working just fine.

Not really sure what the holdup was before, nor what was different from my pervious unsuccessful attempts and this time being successful.

In any case, happy I am able to move on to the latest macOS, and eventually begin to forget about what was before it.

Likely some 3rd party software is causing a problem. Try booting into Safe Mode by holding Shift while powering on an Intel Mac. For Apple Silicon Macs, you hold the power button then hold Shift and the button below the boot disk should state Safe Mode.

Safe Mode boots with the bare minimum things running. All 3rd party software is prevented from loading. It's likely the 3rd party software may break after the upgrade and you should either be prepared to upgrade it or remove it. Thinking about things like antivirus, cleaning maintenance utilities, and other security related tools that are unnecessary.
