Parental Controls keep resetting and turning off on their own

its happening for me as well.. I would like to see a parental control audit report on what changed when.. Also I only see my kids screen time settings on my phone not on the ipad. Once I doubted my kid of tempering.. Feature is unusable..

Hi. I have this too. But I think I worked it out.

iPads are set up correctly. Both running iOS 16.3.1. Parental control working fine.

My eldest kid (8) showed me that if she makes an app crash, all parental controls come back. She knows how to make an acrylic nail crash, and when it goes back to the Home Screen, all parental controls are off.

I am kind of proud of her, I work in software development myself.

this has to be an iOS bug but I am struggling to get Apple to a)believe me and b) fix it.

It’s happening to me too. Called Apple and they ran through some trouble shooting it only worked for 24hrs. I thinking of going to an Apple Store so that I can stand there and show them maybe then they will report and the bug my get fixed if enough parents go to stores and report it to there faces. It is frustrating

Same thing. I put all the settings in and almost immediately they reset on my son's phone and on my daughters it lasts maybe a day then resets. Looks like this has been a problem for a while and I will not allow my kids to just have every app at their fingertips all day long. Plan on switching all of our phones back to Samsung of I can't get it resolved.

My daughter's phone (bought last summer) keeps the parental controls on - no problems. She doesn't play games, mostly reads news, youtube and a few websites. However, my son's phone (bought a few months ago) is constantly dropping parental controls. He downloads lots of games and plays many at the same time (switching back and forth), also watches youtube. I've reentered the settings multiple times a week for months now. Super frustrating.

I updated my OS to 16.4.1 a few days ago and so far screen time hasn't stopped working (for 2 days). It would be nice if Apple's Community team responded with a verification that updating the OS will fix the issue.

It doesn't work.

Within 1hr of setting this up, my 10 year old found he just had to go into settings and change the time. Done. No more parental controls.

I’ve reset both passcodes and it keeps happening. It’s just in our one iPad, not the other. What is going on??

I have reset all the settings, including screen time password and block after up limit is up. In the morning, the screen time password has gone, the rest of the settings are intermittently reset.

every morning this week I have had to reset the settings and the child has had no access to my phone.

I will be arranging to go to Apple support but this can’t be dismissed, the functionality is glitching.

C’mon Apple, you better do something about this. You make us parents look like fools and yet we have our entire family on Apple products.

I have been blaming my son for hacking the screen time passcode all this time. It’s damage that cannot be reversed. 😡😡

This only happens on the one account we have set as a "child's account". Has anyone trying switching the child account to a regular account (still with restrictions)? Would that stop this from happening?

I have been doing the same and when you do this to a child with high functioning autism it doesn’t work out so get. I’m seriously thinking of changing all our phones over to android ones

Sadly, we switched to iPhone about 4 because of how bad the experience was on android.

I am having the same issue with the content and privacy restrictions turning ON by itsself which eliminates several of my apps (safari, App Store, email, maps and many other apps) but it’s on my phone only. It’s very frustrating as it does it multiple times a day. I don’t have restrictions set up on my phone so it shouldn’t be happening.

On my son’s phone his content and privacy restrictions and screen time turns OFF on its own. He doesn’t know the passcode so I know he isn’t doing it.

Same problem. It has been happening for years now with no fix or substantive communication from Apple. It clearly isn’t a password issue nor is it a downtime schedule issue, and yet that’s the mantra every time an Apple employee responds.

It seems like an intentional challenge to parental authority by Apple. They desire to indoctrinate and manipulate the next generation without any safeguards or outside supervision in place. The only solution is to re-check privacy restrictions every few days, switch to a competitor, or remove the child’s device entirely.
