Iphone 14 main camera astigmatism. Is it ok?

I have an Iphone 14 running ios 16.2. When i have a bright object with dark background on a photo, especially when the object is a bright dot, it looks smeared to the left (see pic). It happens only with the main camera, not ultra wide. I didn’t find any info on this. Also my camera is clean; photo looks smeared even in the viewfinder in camera app. Does anyone has the same problem?

Understood Sergeyko42,

Something else to bear in mind is lens flare. This is caused by light reflecting in the camera when it is aimed at a bright light source and is a natural factor when taking photos. Additionally, when taking photos in low light settings, you may be encountering Night Mode, which is explained in detail here: Take Night mode photos with your iPhone camera - Apple Support

Because Night Mode extends exposure to try and capture a better low light picture, it may be capturing subtle movements in the camera while you hold it and this causing that slight smearing image. So if you can stabilize the camera and test this, that could also help narrow down causes.

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! Although, editing these photos didn’t help much. It happens when taking a photo of a screen and with live moments as well (the picture of a man in my post shows this - it is not a photo of a screen). Distance also doesn’t matter, the main factor here is a dark background when taking a photo of a bright object. And also it is seen on video and if i film horizontally, camera smears objects down, not to the left. I think it is a hardware problem, but I am interested, if it is ok and every user of an iPhone 14 has this, or is it a defect and i can get my phone replaced by Apple. Thank you.

Hello Sergeyko42,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

These steps may help:

"Edit your photo or video

After you take your photo or video, open it in the Photos app and tap Edit. Then you can adjust the crop, angle, light, add a filter, and more. Choose an adjustment, like Brightness or Saturation, and slide to change the strength and intensity. If you don’t like how your changes look, tap Cancel and revert back to the original.

Adjust button icon

Adjust light and color

Improve the exposure, saturation, highlights, warmth, tint, and more of your photos and videos. Then use the slider to make precise adjustments with each setting.

Camera filters button icon

Apply filters

Tap one of the photo filters to give your photo a different color effect, such as Vivid or Dramatic. Or try classic black and white looks like Mono and Silvertone.

crop rotate button icon

Crop and straighten

You can drag the corners of the grid tool to set your own crop, then move the wheel to tilt or straighten your photo or video. You can also rotate or flip your photo or video, and adjust the vertical and horizontal perspective."

More details can be found here: Take and edit photos on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Does this happen when taking a photo of a screen or with live moments as well? Also, how far is the subject when you usually notice this?

Cheers!
