If you do not want to have your contacts in iCloud, then you must deactivate the function in iCloud. Please note that if your contacts are stored in iCloud now and you disable sync on your iPhone, you will not be able to see your contacts on your phone until you enable Contacts in iCloud again.


So you must have saved your contacts locally. Or do it manually afterwards.


You can disable iCloud Contacts here:

Settings -> Apple ID (Your name) -> iCloud. Find Contacts in the list and turn off.
