I have contacted Apple Support and was told that they could not change the battery in that model (IpadPro 12.9, 1st generation from 2015).

This is not good enough, the iPad works perfectly, it is only the battery that lasts a few minutes before it switches off again.
I see no point in throwing this away just because of a bad battery in these environmental times.

Apple provides full hardware and software update support for a number of years - after which they transition to “vintage” and eventually “obsolete” status.

Vintage product lines continue to receive hardware support while parts remain available. For obsolete items, Apple no longer provide hardware repairs or service.

While Apple may be unable to provide ongoing hardware support for obsolete products, third-party repairers may be able to offer a non-OEM battery replacement. You should only consider a third-party repair as a last resort - as some components are hardware coded to the device - requiring service software (only available to Apple) to enable the component.

Apple do not change iPad batteries - but for qualifying devices will instead offer exchange for a reconditioned/renewed device of the same model and specification in lieu of a battery replacement. Perhaps, for this reason, you received the response that you report. You’ll note that their are [currently] no iPad models listed in the “obsolete” category.

I have been in contact with an authorized Apple Reseller, but they could not change the battery, but they could; quotation:

"We have the option to order a replacement unit for this model. The price for this is NOK 7,699.-"

Around $750.- US Dollar, this is an expensive battery!?

So it looks like I have to buy a new one, just because of a bad battery!?
