Deleting Messages on iPad doesn't delete them on iPhone

According to other posts, If you delete a Message on iPad, it should delete it on iPhone. I checked the iCloud, Messages and Forwarding Settings and they are all as they should be, but a message or conversation does not get deleted on the iPhone from the iPad.

The message is deleted on my MacBook Pro, so it appears to sync properly there.

If I delete a message from my iPhone, it is deleted on iPad and MacBook.

So it's only the one direction. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help,

Kristen

Hi!

Thanks for replying. As I mentioned in my initial post, I checked all the settings and everything is working EXCEPT the Delete.

I rechecked everything according to your instructions just to be sure and retested. Still the same problem.

I'm running:

iPhone: iOS 16.1.2

iPad: iOS 15.7.1

MacBook Pro: MacOS 12.6.1

Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Kristen

Hello KristenS,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. You mentioned that if you delete a message on your iPad, it will not delete on your iPhone. If so, we'd like to help out and assist you in any way we can. You'll want to make sure that you're using iCloud for Messages across all your devices. This means that if you send, receive, or delete a message on one device, those updates appear everywhere. This resource does explain more in-depth on how this feature works and how to enable it: Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices - Apple Support

1.) On your iPad, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud
2.) Tap on Messages and turn on Sync this iPad

We hope these steps are helpful. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Cheers.

KristenS,

Have you tried restarting your devices? This simple step resolves a multitude of issues:

Restart your iPhone

Restart your iPad

Shut down or restart your Mac

If that doesn't resolve the issue, do your devices need updating? Do you have a recent backup for the data in your devices in iCloud or your computer? If not, we recommend that you create one as described here:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Back up your Mac

Then update your iOS, iPad and macOS as outlined here:

Update your iPhone or iPad

Update macOS on Mac

Cheers!
