Can't update and pair apple watch...

I have an apple watch 2 which hasn't been used for over 2 years.

Now when I'm trying to pair it, it requires the watchOS to be updated.

This is where it fails..

I've tried it on two different iPhones, one 6+ (with iOS 12.5.6) and one 12 pro max (with iOS 16).

The watch app says "your software is up to date", but from there, I can only tap cancel which brings me to the screen that says it needs to be updated again.

I've reseted it, restarted it and tried to erase it but unsuccessfully, it does apear like i've seen here in a similar situation but with an apple watch 4.

Can I make it work again?

Hello Luis_777,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with updating your Apple Watch. WatchOS6 is the maximum a series 2 will update to. If you're having issues with updating your watch, try the steps listed here to see if they resolve the issue: Update your Apple Watch

"Need more help with updating?

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure that your Apple Watch is connecting properly to its charger
  2. Restart your Apple Watch.
  3. Restart your paired iPhone.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

If the update won't start:

  1. Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap General > Software Update.
  3. Delete the update file.
  4. Try again to update your Apple Watch.

Learn what to do if you see 'Cannot Install Update' when updating Apple Watch or if your Apple Watch says you need more available storage to install a watchOS update."

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hi, thanks for your reply.

The problem is not that, when I try to pair it to my phone, it says it needs to update the watch so it can be paired, giving me two options: 1-Don't update and don't pair or 2-Update and proceed with pairing. When I choose the first option it reset to Watch and go back to the "select language", When I choose option 2, it connects, it research and it says "WatchOS 3.1, The Apple Watch is updated with the latest errors correction and security improvements."

And from there I can only "Cancel", there isn't any other option.

Did you understand?

What can I do?

Best Regards,

Luis C.
