Songs in the MacOS Music app stop a few seconds before the end

Lately, some (but not all) newly-added songs to the Music app stop playing a few seconds before the end. The progress slider just jumps to the next song. It's 100% repeatable on the songs on which it happens. It *doesn't* happen if I drag the playhead to before that position; then, it plays on through.

These are all local audio files, not being played from the Internet.

If the same songs are sync'd to my iPhone, they play correctly.

It continues after restarts, etc.

*Sometimes*, deleting and re-adding the song to the library fixes that particular song, but it often it does not.

Thank you for taking the time to reply!

As far as I can tell, the only common characteristic between the songs is that they are not purchased from iTunes, and that they were added after about July, 2022. (Not all songs of this type are affected, though, although every song that is affected shows the same behavior 100% of the time.)

Crossfade is turned off.

Hello XofOldApple,

Finding the common element between the songs this is happening on is the key to finding a solution.

Are the tracks from the same source? Are they the same artist, the same album?

We would also check to see what happens if you adjust the crossfade time. These steps are from Fade between songs in Music on Mac - Apple Support:

Fade between songs in Music on Mac

You can set Music to fade in each song (gradually increase its volume) while the previous song is fading out. This feature, called crossfading, prevents gaps of silence between songs.

1. In the Music app  on your Mac, choose Music > Settings, then click Playback.
2. Select Crossfade Songs.
3. To change the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out at the end and the new song to fade in, drag the Seconds slider.

When Music plays consecutive tracks from the same album, crossfading is automatically turned off, with no fading between the songs (or tracks).

We would test by turning this off, and trying other settings.

Have a good day.

Hello XofOldApple,

Are these songs on any other device? Can you play and check if the file has them ending early too?

Also, we asked before, please check your music settings. Are you set to fade the songs? Fade between songs in Music on Mac - Apple Support

Try changing the settings to whatever is not currently set, and see if it works differently. Thanks.

Thank you for replying!

Crossfade was off. Turning it on only changes in the behavior in that the skip happens earlier the higher the crossfade time is set.

The problem does not occur on files sync'd to other devices (iPhone and iPad).

I exported the Library.xml file, and the times in it appear to be correct (the same as the underlying file).
