Shared photo library is much bigger than actual library?

I created a shared library and invited my wife… we set it up to only share photos with our faces or the kids so it should be a sub set of our library sizes. My personal library is 366GB and hers is less (not sure exactly but high 200’s).

But our shared library is 1.5TB and i’m pretty sure its slowly growing… shortly after i set it up i got a message that I had run out of storage space on iCloud. I spent a bunch of time deleting things from iCloud drive, large videos from my photo album that should have freed up gigabytes of space. I subscribed to Apple One AND iCloud+ to get 4TB total storage (which my wife doesn’t even use as she has her own storage account!) and it is now 2.1 TB storage space taken up.

i have to assume a bug in the shared library code keeps adding the same photos and continuously eating up space but can’t be sure yet.

anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions other than to delete the shared library and try again?

Report this to Apple:

This is a well-known glitch. So, report it to Apple. Expect a fix in the next update.

Do your Part: Provide Apple with feedback on this, letting them know about this issue. Apple may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what is occurring, and what bug fixes to include in updates to come.
