Change old mac book pro with new one

Hi,

I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2014.

I want to know if I can change it with new one in an Apple store considering the followings:

Is the price of the previous MacBook deducted from the cost of the new MacBook? Is the pricing of the old device done in the same store? Will the data from the previous hard drive be completely transferred to the new hard drive? How long does the exchange process take from the time of application to the delivery of the new device, taking into account the above considerations?

Hello yasi.aap,

Those are great questions! As for setting up your new Mac and ensuring all content is transferred over successfully, you'll want to backup your Mac using Time Machine. This allows your content to be backed up to an external hard drive, and will give you the opportunity to restore your new Mac to the backup once purchased. You can also find these steps outlined in the following article.

  1. "Open Time Machine settings:
    • macOS Ventura or later: Choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General in the sidebar, then click Time Machine on the right.
    • Earlier versions of macOS: Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Time Machine.

2.In Time Machine settings, select your external storage device as your backup destination:

    • macOS Ventura or later: Click the add button (+), then follow the onscreen instructions.
    • Earlier versions of macOS: Click Select Backup Disk, then follow the onscreen instructions.

3.If the storage device contains Time Machine backups from another Mac, you might be asked to claim the existing backups so that they become part of the backups for this Mac. Or you can choose to start a new backup instead."
