AirTag faint sound

I have an air tag attached to my keys, but when I search for it, the beep is so faint that one can hardly hear it. It’s really useless like this when trying to find your keys around the house. Is there anyway to turn up the volume on the air tag itself? My Apple Watch, for example is so great for locating my phone with a nice easy sound to hear.

iPhone XR, iOS 16

Hi Louisereid,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

There isn't a way to adjust the volume of an AirTag, but you can leave Product Feedback and the right team may be able to review it.

There are a couple of things you can check with your AirTag. If it is inside a case, try playing the sound while it is outside the case and see if that makes a difference. It's always possible the case isn't aligned correctly on the AirTag.

The lower than expected sound may also suggest a need to change the battery. Here's How to replace the battery in your AirTag.

"Replace your AirTag battery

  1. Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag and rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating.
  2. Remove the cover and battery.
  3. Insert a new CR2032 lithium 3V coin battery (available at most electronic and drug stores) with the positive side facing up. You'll hear a sound indicating that the battery is connected.

CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings might not work with AirTag or other battery-powered products, depending on the alignment of the coating in relation to the battery contacts.

4.Replace the cover, making sure that the three tabs on the cover align with the three slots on the AirTag.

5.Rotate the cover clockwise until it stops."

Have a fantastic day!
