Migration assistant slowing down

I am transferring from the internal HDD in Mac mini to a newly installed internal SSD.

After two hours the rate has slowed to 70kb/s but occasionally back to 10mb/s.

There is only 300gb to migrate.

Why so slow?

2023 M2 Pro Max MacBook Pro slower than 2017 i7 iMac I just upgraded to a M2 Pro Max MacBook 14" 32G/1TB as a replacement for my 2017 i7 iMac 16GB/1TB. I used the Migration Assistant app to transfer all my files. I am using the same (newest) version of Ventura as my iMac, and my SSD is only 40% full. My issue is the M2 machine is taking much longer to open programs than my 2017 iMac. With just Safari and Mail open, it takes Activity Monitor 5-6 seconds to populate the process list (it was instantaneous on my iMac), and other programs like Office takes considerably longer to load as well. I checked my CPU usage, and my machine is only using a total of 5%. I have plenty of available memory, and activity of my SSD is only showing minimal Bytes being sent and received. I can't understand how this new machine can be so much slower than my old one. I have the identical programs on both machines. I have not installed any new software at all. Could someone please help me understand what is happening? I would really appreciate some piece of mind. Thanks...
