Video autoplay not working - big grey play button

Hi, on a few of my colleagues' Apple devices we are seeing a big grey play button over header videos which should autoplay. The devices are as below:

1) Safari and Chrome on iPhone SE running iOS 16.2

2) Safari and Chrome on iPhone 12 running iOS 16.2

3) Safari on MacBook running Monterey 12.0

Has anyone come across this?

Hey harrietaurora,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! For the iPhone's, from the image we see that Low Power Mode is turned on. If that's the case, turn off Low Power Mode to see if the videos will then auto-play as expected. Low Power Mode adjusts the way features work to help with battery life. More details can be found here: Use Low Power Mode to save battery life on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

For the Mac, check to see if this feature has been turned off or possibly blocked for this particular website. Here's more details and how to check: Stop autoplay videos in Safari on Mac - Apple Support

Block video for the currently displayed website

1. In the Safari app  on your Mac, choose Safari > Settings for [website].
You can also Control-click in the Smart Search field, then choose Settings for [website].

2. Hold the pointer to the right of Auto-Play, then click the pop-up menu and choose an option:
• Allow All Auto-Play: Lets videos on this website play automatically.
• Stop Media with Sound: Blocks autoplay for videos that contain audio, but allows other videos to play.
• Never Auto-Play: Blocks autoplay for all videos on this website.

In that same guide there's also steps to check all websites. We hope this helps.

Take care!
