iPad photo and video colours are really dark, all my settings are right I’m sure. Any ideas? It’s quite an old iPad Air

Hey denise CLARK,

That's a great question! See if these steps help to narrow this down a bit with the colors in your photos and videos:

  1. Clean your iPad around, specifically around the camera. Here's a great guide to help: How to clean your Apple products - Apple Support
  2. If you're using a case or screen protector, remove those to help rule out them causing this to happen. That step and more can be found here: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working - Apple Support

If those steps don't help, let us know more:

  • Because menu options can vary, which software version shows in Settings > General > About?
  • Does this happen with both the front and back camera?
  • Do you notice the same experience regardless of the light level in your enrichment (during the day, inside with bright lights, etc.)?

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Hi, Thank so much for your reply and offer of help. The software is 13. something, I don't have the iPad with me at the moment so I can't check. it's an iPad Air 2 .

I will try your tips re cleaning up. But it's not a camera issue.

All the photos and videos, including those on 'You tube and player , Facebook etc. have a very crude and strong colour look to them, mostly very dark. The darkness is improved in setting brightness but it's not right at all, all the detail is absent now.

Hello denise CLARK,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To clarify, the issue is not with photos you are taking, it is with photos you are viewing in third party apps? If so, the steps below may help:

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

1. Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

If the issue persists with the built-in camera app, then reach out to Apple Support directly to help investigate the behavior, as there may be a hardware issue with the camera. You can use the following link to reach out: Contact - Official Apple Support

Hope this helps!

Have a great day.
