I have an Apple ID for my iPhone and a different one for my MacBook. I would like the Apple ID on my MacBook to be the the only one I have. Can I make it the same one on my iPhone?

I tried but when I try to change it on my iPhone it says it’s already taken!

iPhone 8 Plus, 16

You can sign out of the account on the phone and sign in with the one on the Mac. You can use the same one on both at the same time.

The 'already taken' message sounds to me like you are trying to create a new ID, not sign in with one that already exists.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap Sign in to your [device].

3. Enter your Apple ID and password.

4. If prompted, enter the six-digit verification code sent to your trusted device or phone number and complete sign in.

What is not so easy is if you wish to gerge content. Merging Apple accounts (IDs) or transferring data is not officially supported, nor can it be done easily or completely. Read the links below for things you may need to do to transfer as much as is possible.

If you have signed into the first ID on a device then fortunately when you sign out of that ID, do not erase the device, then sign in with a different ID, it asks you in most cases if you wish to merge the data from the two IDs on your device. Choose Reachable At, then select the Add button .

Enter your additional email address. Make sure that you're not already using it as an Apple ID.

Limnos…Thank you so much for replying back! Unfortunately, I’m not great at this stuff so if you’ll bear with me, a few questions. I have one Apple ID under reachable at and my other one under that, on my iPhone. The second one is the other Apple ID on my Mac. It has a little i next to it and when I tap on it, it says this email needs to be verified to use with this acct. when I tap on verify it says it’s not available so pick another one. This email address is actually the Apple ID I use on my Mac and am trying to change to my iPhone.
