macOS Ventura 13.1 printer driver support

My Lexmark model S605 inkjet printer works fine on my old MacBook Pro/High Sierra O/S. It will not communicate with with my newer MacBook Pro (M1 chip, Ventura 13.1 O/S).

The software that was migrated over from the old machine seems to work ok but does not establish communication with the S600.

Does anyone know of a print driver that could work with this newer machine / older printer?

The printer has been obsoleted by Lexmark for several years and they are providing no support for it.

You would need a compatible Lexmark scanner and printer driver for the S605 model. Lexmark ended driver support in 2015 for this model and the last supported operating system was El Captian (10.11). The fact the driver(s) worked on High Sierra was more to luck than planning. Due to the age of the last driver, it was likely 32-bit and that is not supported on Ventura.

Now, there is no compatible driver from Lexmark for the S605 on Ventura. The S605 is not supported in Apple's built-in AirPrint unless you wanted to invest in a networked print server of the models shown in the AirPrint article. Otherwise, you are looking for a replacement networked multi-function device listed in Apple's AirPrint list of supported devices so you would not be vendor dependent again.

Hi BroncoDriver,

The steps outlined in this resource could be helpful if you're having trouble printing: Solve printing problems on Mac.

• If your printer is connected to your Mac, make sure the printer cable is firmly connected, and the printer is plugged into an electrical outlet, and turned on.

• If the printer is on the network, make sure your Mac and the printer are still on the same network, the printer is turned on, and the network isn’t experiencing problems. If the network has multiple printers, check which printer you chose—it may be different from the one you think you chose.

• If you use a shared printer connected to another Mac, make sure the Mac has macOS 10.5 or later installed, isn’t in sleep, and has sharing turned on. See Share your printer.

• If your printer is connected to your computer’s USB port, check the System Report to see that it has an active connection. Press and hold Option, then choose Apple menu  > System Information. If the printer’s name appears in the hardware list but the printer doesn’t work, review the printer’s documentation for further troubleshooting information.

If the issue persists after reviewing that article, the manufacturer of the printer may have some additional guidance to provide: Lexmark.

Regards.
