My review of iCloud on PC after trying to switch from Google Drive

I decided this year before my Google Drive renewal that I wanted to try out iCloud. Apple's cloud service is really great for mobile devices. It allows you to sync and backup your photos on your phone very easily and saves a lot of storage space on your mobile devices. However, I found out that when it comes to file management, iCloud is terrible. After trying iCloud for a few days, I decided I will downgrade back to the free tier and continue to use Google Drive as my primary cloud storage provider. Apple has a long way to go when it comes to iCloud on PC.

Below are areas for improvement for iCloud on PC:

• The iCloud for PC app does not show progress on what is being uploaded or downloaded. When it's working (which it doesn't always), it only shows how many files are being "processed."
• There's no way to designate certain iCloud files to be marked as offline or online. This means that there's no way for you to customize how to save space or decide what is uploaded to the cloud
• No way for iCloud to sync existing folder structure, you have to completely re-process all files when you do a new setup
• Similarly, because there's no way to sync existing folder structure, you have to delete all files every time you want to sign out of iCloud
• This is even worse because signing out of iCloud is the first step to troubleshooting iCloud. That means the minimum amount of time needed to troubleshoot iCloud can be many hours depending on how many files you have
• Very slow file processing. Files are processed at around 318 files/min versus Google Drive, which processes thousands per second. This means for 1TB of files, you have to wait days if not weeks for all files to be processed!

It's obvious Apple doesn't care about customers using iCloud for PC file storage/management. It's a tool only for mobile device users. For people that are trying to store and manage 1TB of files or more, it's practically an unusable tool. I have uninstalled iCloud from my PC and will continue to use Google Drive instead
