MacBook Pro won't stream video

Just noticed today that none of my streaming services are working on my 2014 MacBook Pro and I can't get logged into my iCloud account. It keeps trying to prompt me to log in but then says I am unable to connect that device to my account. I am also unable to stream any video from my various streaming platforms. The MacBook is currently running Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.2 and is unable to update to anything more recent (ie: Ventura 13). Am I stuck here or is there some way for me to adjust my MacBook to continue to stream video?

Hi vbones,

is this happening in the apps for a specific streaming service or are you using Safari? You'll want to confirm the requirements for the specific streaming services you are running into an issue with.

If you are using the Apple TV app and running into an issue, check out the steps in this article to troubleshoot: If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app - Apple Support.

1. Check the System Status page for service interruptions or check a third-party provider's website for any interruptions. If there are service interruptions, try to stream or watch the video later.
2. If you're having trouble signing in with your Apple ID, you can reset your Apple ID password or learn how to get a verification code and sign in with two-factor authentication.
3. If your cellular connection is poor, connect to Wi-Fi instead.*
4. Try watching on a different device using the same Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If it doesn't work, contact your internet service provider to see if there's an issue with your network.
5. If other people are using Apple TV+ or Apple TV channels, make sure it doesn't exceed the limits for streaming on multiple devices.

Have a good one!

Hi Jeff. Yes, the primary issue seems to be that I am not able to sign into iCloud after being prompted to do so. The error message received is "Can't use your Apple ID on This Device. Your Apple ID can only be used on devices running iOS 16.2 or later, or macOS 13.1 or later. This MacBook Pro can't be updated to the latest software." So looks like I've got an overpriced brick at this point. Still useful for accessing internet via browser (email via the provider website directly), but not for any of the Apple specific apps/tools/features.

Thanks, Trish. The issue is for all my streaming services that worked fine before. I now get a prompt on my MacBook Pro to sign into my iCloud account after which I get an error message telling me that my device can no longer be added to my iCloud account. I suspect that at some arbitrary date, Apple chose to not support the laptop in order for me to buy a new one. The streaming (and everything else) was working just fine a month or two ago when I last streamed video. I seem to be locked into staying with Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.2 as no other options are available to me to update my OS. I was just throwing the question out to the community to validate my assumptions. I had the same issue earlier on my older IPad Air device. Locked out of my iCloud account and unable to update the OS/stream video. Forced obsolescence I guess.
