Hi.

I also have this same issue. I did a factory restore through iTunes and by putting my phone into recovery mode. Set iPhone up as new with no backup and before I made it out of the setup, I was prompted with the your iPhone is unable to use Apple Pay error. This started about a month ago.

I would like to state that there is no resolution for this. This resides in a damaged NFC module (in my case at least). This was a self inflicted issue on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. They stated that it would require a board swap. They basically take the top half of your phone off and replace the bottom half. Apple care paid majority of this.

I drop my phone a lot so this doesn’t surprise me. Lasted two years before I broke anything lol.

Hello SteveD1978,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're looking for help with Apple Pay not working, right?

If you're unable to add a card to Apple Wallet for Apple Pay, check out the steps below. These details can also be found, here: If you can't add a card to Apple Wallet to use with Apple Pay - Apple Support

1. Check that you're able to use Apple Pay:

• Contact your card issuer to see if they support Apple Pay.

• Update to the latest version of iOS or iPadOSwatchOS, or macOS.

• Make sure that you are in a supported country or region.

• Check that your device is compatible with Apple Pay.

2. Check for services outages or connection issues.

3. If you see the message "Could Not Add Card" or "Invalid Card," contact your bank or card issuer.

Apple does not approve or decline cards for use with Apple Pay. If your card was declined, contact your bank or card issuer.

If the message is referring to an issue being detected as outlined in the related resource above, you'll need to reinstall the latest iOS version on your iPhone. Be sure to back up your iPhone before doing this, and you can locate the steps here: If you see a Cellular, Ultra Wideband, or Apple Pay Issue message after an iOS update or restart - Apple Support

You need a computer to follow these steps.

1. Make sure that you have a backup of your iPhone or iPad.

2. Connect your device to a computer that has the latest version of macOS or iTunes. On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open a Finder window. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a Windows PC, open iTunes.

3. If "Trust this Computer" appears, unlock your device, then tap Trust.

4. Select your device.

5. In the Finder, click General. Or in iTunes, click Summary. Then:

• On a Mac: Command-click Check for Update.

• On a Windows computer: Control-click Check for Update.

6. Click Download and Update. Continue by following the onscreen instructions.

Your computer will download and reinstall the current version of software on your device. Don't disconnect your device from your computer until the download completes.

If the message still appears, contact Apple Support.

If that isn't helpful, provide more detail on what's occurring with Apple Pay. We'll be able to provide more accurate information when we have a better understanding.

Have a great day!
