I'm new to an Apple Watch - I have a SE 2nd edition. I have several photos that I'd like to have as a background to a simple analog watch face, but the only analog option is Kaleidoscope. Is there any work around?

If you want to use a picture for your Apple Watch face that is not a Kaleidoscope, try this:
Change the watch face on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
After following these steps, scroll down in the Apple Watch face selections until you come to an Apple Watch face called "Photos". Select this and you should be able to add a normal photo to the Apple Watch face.

What you're asking for is not a current option in watch faces. You could if you want check out some watch face apps to see if one of them (most do come with a fee) will provide an option which better meets your need.
