How do I get rid of the big red dot on my phone app?

Try open the Phone app, go to Recents. Look for the two taps at the top "All" and "Missed" - tap them both to see the lists and to make sure it's not a missed call you haven't seen. You can possibly also choose to clear your call list if you do not need the information.
If that didn't remove the red dot, check voicemail as well. If you use Visual Voicemail, there may be an unanswered message.
If none of that works, try closing all apps and turning your iPhone off and on again.
