How to disable iPad microphone

I am trying to input audio using 3.5 Trrs connector. The problem is the iPad microphone still is active. Shouldn’t the internal microphone disable once the TRRS plug is installed?

Are you certain that your external Mic is correctly wired?

There are different wiring standards for TRRS connections. In general, there are three main wiring standards for 3.5mm TTRS connections - and they are not interchangeable:

CTIA (Apple)

OMTP (Nokia)

Camcorder AV

Yes. I confirmed with an ohm meter for continuity that it is Apple compatible. I purchased Startech adapter as recommended by several YouTube videos. I am waiting on a connector to feed audio into this adapter. Maybe this Startech adapter currently open ended doesn’t disable the internal iPad microphone??

Head phones work fine and internal iPad speaker is off with this adapter.

ipad is 7th generation
