File 'Versions' causing slow work with large files

Is there any way in Ventura to stop file versions? I have Rhino 3D models that are around 4-5Gb and the constant 'versions' that Osx instigates cause a spinning beach ball and slow down for 10-20 seconds every 5 minutes or so. I already have to pause drop box whenever I work on those projects as that is pushed to update (upload) the file too, and then other Macs on the network download the updated file from Dropbox. its all very annoying. I downloaded Onyx for Ventura but doesn't seem to be an option in there?

any Terminal commands that I can use to either temporarily or permanently stop OsX From saving versions?

Please Note this is NOT a 're open unsaved files' issue, it is to do with Osx constantly saving 'versions' within a document.

I think that you may have to turn off the auto-save facilities by checking

"Ask to keep changes when closing documents"

in System Settings->Desktop & Dock.

This will be across the whole system, not specific to one application.

On the flip side, of course, then you may want to manually save, from time to time, or risk working on a document for a long time and potentially lose your work by mistake, or a power loss, for example.

Thanks for responding,

I have that already 'checked' so not sure if I need to 'un-check' it, but I'll change it and see if it helps?

I'll try your suggestion, but I've read that it's a separate issue that this doesn't solve (on the rhino3D forum).

would turning 'on' the "close windows when quitting an application" option help?

(I always manually close docs anyway as I use more than one machine and want the files up to date in dropbox and closed after use.

many apps have their own autosave option anyway so probably wouldn't cause me any issues, I generally get the pop up notice from OSX telling me I'm saving too frequently anyway, but this is additionally annoying, as I save when I need a specific firebreak point or to change task, and its the incessant versions that are actually the 'too frequent' part.
