My phone overheats really fast causing slowdowns

Hello everyone I just recently got an iPhone 8plus from my brother and I have been having a really bad problem which is it overheating. It overheats a lot when I am using without even playing games or charging. I have other friends that also use this same type of iPhone but don’t get such problems. And I don’t use the phone in hot environments but the problem still happens. I have reset all my files a couple of time , updated my iOS to the latest but the problem still persists.

Does anyone have any idea what’s wrong.

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 16

Emmadavid892,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your device performance and battery issue.

The next step is to check the battery's health. If it's at 80% or lower then it's considered consumed and would need to be replaced. A consumed battery would cause your issues. More info about iPhone Battery and Performance can be found here. If it's consumed and you want more info about iPhone Battery Repair & Replacement check out this page.

Greetings Emmadavid892,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Do you ever see a temperature warning on your iPhone? Did you recently restore that device from a backup? Should either of these be the case, you can get an explanation of what you may be experiencing here:
