iPhone health app subtracting steps Once I put on apple watch

while charging my Apple Watch I use my iPhone as to my accumulated step count. Once charged I use my watch again. The issue is once I put on my watch again it subtracts steps from my iPhone. Today when I got up my step count on my watch and iPhone was approximately 100. I put the watch on the charger and used my iPhone to keep track of my steps. At the point my watch was charged my iPhone said I had 1600 steps. Once I put the watch back on it reduced it to 1200 steps on my iPhone. So do I have a setting wrong or why the reduction?

Gomo2010,

To isolate the behavior further we recommend calibrating your Apple Watch: Calibrate your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy - Apple Support

Start by checking your settings prior to moving on to additional steps.

"Check your settings

To make sure that your Apple Watch can get the information it needs, check these settings on your iPhone:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security > Location Services.
  3. Make sure that Location Services is turned on.
  4. Scroll down, then tap System Services.
  5. Make sure that Motion Calibration & Distance is turned on.
  6. Continue with the steps below."

This can help ensure your devices are tracking your activity correctly.

If everything was/is set as directed but the step count continues to drop, we recommend contacting Apple Support to look into this further with you: Get Support

Cheers.
