Google Maps using my iPhone SE but latest OS 16.1.2

Google maps works great when I'm plugged into CarPlay, but my other car doesn't have CarPlay. I've tried to use Google Maps just using my iPhone screen but unless I use it with CarPlay, it keeps trying to bring up Lyft. I can hit Directions and Start without CarPlay, but I don't get a set of directions on my iPhone UNLESS I'm using CarPlay. Am I missing something?

Fortunately I don't have that problem if I use Apple Maps, but I really like Google Maps.

Try Settings > Google Maps > Siri & Search > Suggestions [all three categories] = “off”.

Nope. iOS 16.2 was released by Apple in December.

Ah, maybe that's the problem. I'll download 16.2 and see if that corrects things. Thanks

Okay, I updated to 16.2 and the same problem exists. However, updating to the latest version was still a good thing to do.
