How do I verify my stolen AirPods to law enforcement?

A child at my daughters school stole her AirPods, we found the AirPods via the find devices option. We went to the house where the locator stated the AirPods would be to ask for them back. The parent who answered the door seemed to know that his daughter suddenly had AirPods, but not my daughters. This parent is definitely lying. How do I handle this with law enforcement since the last time the AirPods locator was active was on Dec 17th and it is now Jan 14th. Do I have any options here? Please advise
