Which Mac laptop should I choose for basic everyday use?

I’m not a technology person, I barely know how to use my iPhone. But I want a MacBook for pleasure and writing, not business or gaming. Help would be so appreciated! Would refurbished be good if I’m not in situation to purchase a new one? But I don’t want one that looks old with scratches and dents. I shop on Amazon a lot but I’m finding their more expensive than anywhere. I got use to IOS and didn’t even realize that it meant Apple, so I ordered a cheap one on Black Friday and now I know why I don’t like Windows! I just need help finding a refurbished one so I’m not paying thousands, but does the older it gets (even refurbished) mean it’s not as good? Please help a girl out!! Thank you!!

Apple's Certified Refurbished products are indistinguishable from new. They will not be scratched or dented and will look new in every respect. They generally ship in plain white boxes rather than Apple's typically glossy ornate ones.

The only recommendation I have would be not to buy the lowest end configuration of anything. I can confidently recommend any of the models on these pages: https://www.apple.com/shop/refurbished/mac/512gb-macbook-air. 512 GB should be adequate for the needs you describe, and they don't cost thousands. They're an excellent value.
