How to obtain the unlock code for a MacOS laptop that was erased from iCloud while updating its operating system from version Yosemite 10.10 to Catalina 10.15?

I tried to update a MacOS laptop from Yosemite 10.10 version to Catalina 10.15 version. I used the installers from this page, which opened the AppStore. The installer ran and suddenly the computer reset, it asked me for the unlock code created when the device was erased from Find My Device on iCloud. So I verified by logging into the iCloud account registered on the laptop. The device appears as erased. I would like to know how I can access the unlock code it asks for. The problem is that this computer belongs to a family member and he doesn't remember which code he configured, and I am new to using MacOS and have not found a way to obtain this code or reset the computer.

The computer specifications are as follows (before the update):

Version: OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

Model: MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014)

Processor: 1,4 GHz Intel Core i5

Memory: 4GB 1600 MHZ DDR3

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB

This is the code screen that I'm being requested and this's how the device appears in iCloud.

MacBook Air 13″, OS X 10.10

If you can't unlock your Mac

After you've located your Mac, you can unlock it by entering the passcode you created when you locked it with Find My.

If you can't remember that passcode, you have three options:

      • Sign in to iCloud.com/find, then select your Mac from the Devices menu. Select Unlock and follow the steps to verify your identity.
      • Unlock your Mac from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Apple Watch using your device passcode.
      • Take your Mac to an Apple Authorised Service Provider along with your proof of purchase.
