OK to upgrade to Ventura on MacBook Pro purchased 12/9/17??

Is Ventura 13.1 solid now? I have a MacBook Pro 13" with 512 Gbytes of memory. It was purchased in December 2017. There have been some bad experiences with this upgrade when it first came out. It is best to wait to upgrade from Monterey 12.6.2?

From the Apple () menu > About This Mac, what is in parenthesis on the product description line? It it says 2017, then your MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Ventura 13.1. If the year from the first sentence is older than 2017, then your MacBook Pro cannot be upgraded to Ventura. It is not when you made the purchase, it is what the market introduction date of that MacBook Pro reflects. It must be 2017 or newer.

My Ventura 13.0.1 and currently 13.1 have been flawless in stability and actually made my M1 mini more responsive than when it was running Big Sur 11.7.2.

As is the case with any operating system upgrade, you should verify with third-party application, printer, and scanner vendors if their products are compatible with Ventura. You should take a final Time Machine backup before that upgrade and then set that backup drive aside and start a new one for the upgraded operating system.

1 - Yes

2 - This the user is mistaking Drive Capacity for RAM. The two are very different.

3 - The Age of this computer will Govern what newer version of macOS it will Qualify to install. Use About this Mac from the Apple Icon on Desktop - the required Information will be there.

With the above information in-hand - follow this How to get old versions of macOS and verify what version this computer Qualifies to install.  For Best results use Safari to commence the download as Others may not work.

Safari will open a redirect and open the Apple Store where the download can commence.

Computer Qualifying for macOS 13 Ventura

4 - The Current version of Monterey is version 12.6.2 and IMHO it is always Best to have the computer Totally Up To Date on current version of macOS Before attempting a upGrade

5 - Since the user expresses concerns about upGrades.

6 - It usually Best to have a Rescue Plan already in place and used frequently.

7 - The 3 -2 -1 Plan seems too work using 3 Backups, using 2 different methods and 1 Off Site incase of Natal or Un-Natural Disaster

Ventura was solid for me since the first beta. Your experience depends on what third-party software you have installed, and the hardware you have connected.

Some people have problems with certain displays. Any system modifications you install are almost always problematic. If you have some, you need to check with the developer for compatibility.

As previous Contributor has mentioned, Solid since the initial release on 2 Apple Computers I use.

Additional, both from Observations and experience, most Issue that exist are usually and often times Self Inflicted Software issues and / or not doing a good analysis of the exiting Third Party Software installed on the computer, Before attempting the UpGrade.

Any Third Party Applications that will interfere with the normal operation of the OS,  is an invitation for disaster and comprise the Operating System

Certain Applications maybe available on the Apple Apps Store - this only means the Developer is prepared to pay Apple a portion on each sale. What the Application may do to the computer is up to the User to check this out before purchase

Any of the below should be removed as per Developers Instructions

Whether the computer is qualified for upgrade is one issue answered above. Another issue is program compatibility. Does all programs running on one macOS version also run after an upgrade? I am considering a similar upgrade as the one in question, but depend on some older programs I have. I faintly remember that at some version an incompatibility was introduced. Was is something about 32 or 64 bit addressing? Maybe I am wrong. But I would be grateful if someone could assure that no program incompatibility has been introduced after Mojave.

As Others have rightly mentioned Mojave was the Last version to support Anything 32 bit.

That includes Applications, Kernel Extensions, Third Party Drivers for Scanners, Printers etc

Suggest using Go64 to find 32 bit application before attempting the upGrade. Some or many of the Application already installed may require an update or upGrades to 64 Bit Version
