I have my contact default account set to iCloud but when I create a new contact on my iphone it syncs to gmail contacts but not to iCloud contacts. What am I doing wrong?

Hello ravmitterhoff,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
Based on what you're describing, it sounds like you are doing things correctly and they should be going to iCloud. In order to isolate this, could you go to Settings > Contacts > Default Account, change it to Gmail, restart your iPhone, and then go back in there and switch back to iCloud?
This may seem like a simple step, but may resolve what you're experiencing.
Cheers!
