And I was actually going to reach out to you…..

I think people change their Apple IDs because they don’t understand the difference between creating a new Apple ID and updating their existing ID with a new email address. I think Apple could do a better job of making it clear. Part of the problem is that the Apple ID is an email address. It can be confusing to some people that, in this case, it’s not being used as an email address but simply as a log in (mostly).

It’s a great user tip!

Hello ~ Take a look at this helpful user tip by clicking below…

The All Too Common SAD Reality of Buying a Used iPad/iPhone*

Read through this section as it may explain…

*Three iCloud Accounts Per Device:

Throughout the life of an iPhone/iPad, the device can ONLY have three iCloud accounts used on the device. This is important to know. Even if a device is wiped fresh for a new user, but it has already had three Apple ID's used, the device CANNOT be set up under a new ID, meaning the device will be useless to you if you buy one. In addition to ensuring the device has been thoroughly wiped and prepared correctly for a new user, you'll need to validate it can accept your Apple ID to set it up for your use.

I believe there is an error in that user tip. You can only create three apple IDs on a given iPhone. After that, if you want to create a new one, you need to do it on a computer. Once it’s created, you can use it on the iPhone.

See also Limnos’s most recent comment:

The 3 iCloud accounts is out of date. At least I cannot see anything that says that and its entry really calls for a link to Apple's own documentation for authentication. What I think it refers to is If you see a Could Not Create Apple ID or Could Not Set Up iCloud message - Apple Support which specifies it is an annual limit, not lifetime.

"If you see a Could Not Create Apple ID message

If you see a Could Not Create Apple ID message, it means that you have exceeded the number of new Apple IDs you can set up with iCloud on a single device in one year.

I just noticed this thread and updated my user tip by removing the reference to three Apple ID's altogether. The point of the user tip was more for people buying activation locked devices and honestly the three Apple ID limit really does't seem to appear here with any regularity.

Thanks

Ps: I will never understand WHY people feel the need to change their Apple ID, which causes so many issues for them along the way. But they do, I suppose believing their saving themselves from some phantom issue, which as we all know, all one really needs to is keep the same Apple ID forever and change one's Apple ID Password, if need be. Sigh.....
